THE ARTIST, BÅRD BREIVIK, TO FREMOVER, 25 OCT 1991:
"I am thrilled at the possibilities. In Narvik, I can fulfil a boyhood dream of following the water, from the sea to its mountain spring. I have found excellent raw materials in the district, but I won't yet reveal where I've made my discoveries. [...]
To me, the river is the pillar and the life-blood of the community. The water is clean and inviting. The way I see it, the entire valley could be a sculpture, but it's too soon to say what I am going to do. There will definitely be a combination of natural rock and running water. The question is if I should just focus on one location, or if I should choose several sites along the waterway.
I wish the entire town would embrace and realize the potential of Elvedalen in Taraldsvik. The neighbourhood association is very involved, and has already done a great job on the river park down at the bottom. With the level of dedication shown by the people I have talked to this last week, I just hope the municipality will get behind a comprehensive project for the area."
