Bø comprises the now-merged fishing villages of Steine, Skagen and Vinje. The municipality is located at the far west of Vesterålen, and covers the southwestern part of Langøya.
Bø has some industry, primarily associated with fisheries. There are filleting plants at Steinesjøen, Eidet and Nykvåg, and there are trawler fleets at Hovden and Bø.
The former police chief's seat is now Bø Rural Museum, which houses an extensive collection of artefacts from the local fishing-and-farming culture. Bø Church, located at the far south in the municipality, is a cross-shaped timber-framed church from 1824, boasting a pulpit and altarpiece from 1762, as well as several medieval artefacts. Svinøya outside Vinje is home to the largest concentration of Iron Age burial mounds in Northern Norway. Cultural hike at Gaukværøy.
The burial mounds at Føre are Bø's contribution to the "Footprints in the North" project. The burial mounds are approx. 1700 years old, evidence of an early powerful elite in Northern Norway, well ahead of the chieftaindoms that emerged a few centuries later. Also open to the public at Føre are the rock caskets discovered in 1955, when 11 burial sites from around 400 AD (the first wave of settlement in Vesterålen) were excavated. Bø Rural Museum has an exhibit dedicated to the findings from this excavation.
