Leirfjord kommune

Leirfjord covers the mainland area between the mouth of Ranfjorden and Vefsnfjorden, as well as the northeastern part of Alsten.

Leirfjord is among the municipalities along the Helgeland coast best suited for agriculture, due to its schistose soil qualities and relatively sheltered climate. Cattle farms, primarily for dairy production, are the most common, and there are few large farms. There are some forested areas in the municipality, but limited forestry. Traditionally, fishing was important, but it has declined in recent years, and is now of minor importance and characterized by seasonal fisheries. There are several fish farms in the municipality, and the fish processing plant SeaLore, which processes salmon, is a cornerstone employer in the community. Lerifjord has some other industry, privarily related to fishing: fish processing, mechanical workshops, etc. At Bardal, there is a boat building factory, manufacturing wooden boats. 35 percent of the workforce is employed outside of the municipality, the majority of whom work in industry and construction, primarily in Sandnessjøen.

Leirfjord's contribution to the "Footprints in the North" project is Bruneset, which is strategically placd, facing the fairway. The cultural heritage trail shows traces of human settlements here for a thousand years. There are Iron Age burial mounds, the remains of a coastal farm, and a German coastal fortress from World War II.
